Chinese New Year is around the Corner

On January 23rd, teachers from Confucius Institute at Western Michigan University visited Northward Elementary School in Allegan and had three 50-min presentations about Chinese New Year for second, third and fourth graders.

The Confucius Institute and Chinese language program at Western Michigan University will hold a 2015 Chinese New Year Gala on Feb. 11 Wednesday at Wesley Foundation from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.. You can experience Chinese cultural activities, enjoy traditional Chinese New Year dinner, see and hear performances of Chinese dance, music and arts here. Besides these, you may also win a prize there. Welcome to join us.

Lecture “Craftwork Treasure of China” at Holland Museum

Three instructors from Confucius Institute at WMU traveled to Holland Museum and conducted a lecture about Chinese paper cutting, knots and calligraphy last Thursday night. The lecture named "Craftwork Treasure of China" is one of the museum’s after-dark program.


“Panda Sensation” in Sunset Lake Elementary

 On November 25, the Tuesday right before Thanksgiving, Confucius Institute teachers went to Sunset Lake Elementary in Vicksburg and gave a fun cultural lesson to the second and fourth graders.


Calligraphy Workshop

Last week calligraphy workshop, one activity of WMU International Education Week, signaled the end of 2014 fall Confucius Institute workshop series but the start of learning Chinese culture.


2014 China Festival at WMU

The bright yellow panda T-shirts shine again on the first China Festival at Western Michigan University.  Confucius Institute at Western Michigan University, along with several other Chinese organizations in Kalamazoo successfully held China Festival on Sept. 27 in Student Recreation center for the celebration of the First Confucius Day.  Confucius Day originates from the birthday of Confucius. The first Confucius day also celebrates the 10-year achievement of Confucius Institute around the world.


2014 Capital City Dragon Boat Race

September 13-14, Confucius Institute at Western Michigan University participated in the Capital City Dragon Boat Race held by Women’s Center of Greater Lansing in Lansing, MI.


2014 Bronco Bash and Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival

Confucius Institute at Western Michigan University promoted Chinese culture at university and office level. Two festivals, bronco bash and mid-autumn festival, at the beginning of the new academic year kindled the passion for Chinese culture at WMU.


2014 Fall Registration under Way for Low-cost Chinese Culture Classes

KALAMAZOO--The Confucius Institute at Western Michigan University is accepting registrations for Fall Chinese culture classes that begin the week of Sep. 8, 2014.

The low-cost classes are taught by instructors from Beijing Language and Culture University and are open to the public. They meet once a week, are taught in English, and are offered to adults age 18 or older for personal enrichment rather than academic credit.
