Chinese culture courses open to campus and community

The Confucius Institute at Western Michigan University will be offering non-WMU credit Chinese culture courses to WMU students and the local community beginning spring 2010. Course offerings include Chinese cooking, Chinese painting, Chinese crafts, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Chinese music and instruments, and Tai Chi.

Chinese song and dance troupe provided prelude to Year of the Tiger

More than 800 people from campus and the local community attended a performance by the Huazhong University of Science and Technology Musical Troupe on January 28 in Miller Auditorium sponsored by the Confucius Institute at Western Michigan University.

On July 16, 2012 the Confucius Institute at WMU held a Chinese Summer Festival at the Fountain Plaza on campus. Families joined together for an evening of Chinese language and culture.

Confucius Institute brings new Chinese Instruction and Research Collection to Waldo Library

Local access to a broad range of contemporary Chinese language instructional materials, including books and videos, is now available at Western Michigan University’s Waldo Library through a new Chinese Instruction and Research Collection established by the Confucius Institute.

The new collection, which resides on the library’s lower level, includes more than 1,000 titles donated to WMU by Beijing Language and Culture University Press and Hanban, a unit of China’s ministry of education.
