On Wednesday, February 3, The Confucius Institute at Western Michigan University held a Chinese New Year Game Party at Wesley Foundation. Over 150 people came and enjoyed the games and the food.
The Game Party is an annual celebration of the Chinese New Year by CI at WMU. In China, people go to fairs during the Chinese New Year. In a traditional Chinese fair, there are performances and booths demonstrating and selling traditional arts and crafts. You can also find a lot of games to play and taste numerous kinds of local snacks. CI at WMU brought the fair to Kalamazoo.
Participants enjoyed six traditional Chinese games including: bean bag toss, ring toss, ping-pong adventure, word guessing and crazy chopsticks. Local people came and had great fun. Besides the games, CI at WMU also prepared traditional Chinese food and gifts for the participants. People traded in tickets won from games for food and gifts. Dumplings, spring rolls and sesame balls were the most. the chopsticks and Chinese paper-cutting works were gone in only a few minutes.
Eating traditional Chinese food, playing traditional Chinese games, getting gifts, participants had a wonderful night and had a better understanding of Chinese culture.
